BUILDING ACADEMIC CONFIDENCE, CURIOSITY AND CAPACITY
Student Success
Highschool is a time of BIG transitions, and there’s often a lack of capacity to meet student’s complex / consistent learning support needs in traditional learning spaces. That’s where I Dream Library tutor-mentors come in! A tutor-mentor is 1:1 / small group learning leader who works with the students, caregivers and teachers to meet a student’s immediate support needs and build a positive relationship with learning.
Tutor-mentors for Grades 8 - 12:
immediate academic needs (homework, organization, study skills)
learning tools and strategies that build confidence and engagement in a classroom / school environment
SEL (social emotional learning) and critical thinking skills
Meeting Diverse Needs
Our process involves working with students, teachers, and families to set and achieve learning goals. IDL tutor-mentors have experience supporting marginalized and underserved students including neurodivergent and disabled learners. We understand that not all neurodivergent students have a formal diagnosis. Inclusive tools and accessible learning strategies can be applied with or without diagnosis. This increases the student’s confidence in approaching academic challenges and builds capacity for success in their primary learning spaces.

Trauma Informed Teaching
Trauma informed tutoring means healing the student’s relationship to education is critical to their success. Our tutor-mentors understand that often academic success is challenged by ongoing traumas at school and within the education system. This can include racism, sexism, ableism, queerphobia and transphobia. Students and tutor-mentors are matched by evaluating complementary skills, needs, identity, personality and availability. We use resources and learning strategies that prioritize anti-oppression and reflect diverse lived experiences. Our packages are designed to build positive relationships with education professionals, offer students predictable and consistent support, and meet challenges with diverse, relevant, and inclusive strategies to succeed in their primary learning spaces.
Student Enrollment
This program offers enrollment throughout the year. At times, we will cap the number of enrolled students to maintain a manageable student-tutor ratio. Applicants waiting open spots or for funding from our DREAM Scholarship will be waitlisted and notified when a tutor-mentor becomes available.
